SFM 2016 has been the fourth edition of a range of successful annual international conferences on EU policy, organized by Maastricht-based students.
The conference took place at the Maastricht University Campus in Brussels from 13th to the 17th of April. Four different working groups, each with 10 participants, prepared a policy proposal for the European Commission on the following topics: EU Health Policy, European Foreign Policy: humanitarian & development aid, EU-Union of and for Citizens and Gender Equality in the Labour Market. During the discussion students were accompanied by professionals from the Commission, NGOs, private companies or universities. In addition, a lecture was given by A. Guggenbühl (EIPA) on how to write policy proposals most effectively to complement the work in the groups.
The main feature of the opening ceremony 2016 was a roundtable discussion led by Dr. Peralta, Senior Economic Advisor of Podemos, Dr. Guérot, Founder of the European Democracy Lab, Dr. Ross, Professor of European Law, focused on solidarity, EU citizenship and EU competition law, Ms. Bouygues, Deputy Director General for the European Commission and founder of Françaises d’Europe.
