The 2014 edition of SFM closed on April 13 after five days of intense discussions and exchange of opinions. Different from previous editions the 2014 conference took place at the University Maastricht Campus in Brussels. Since this year, SFM is at the heart of Europe inviting the students to enjoy the special atmosphere of the capital of the European Union.
As a key feature of SFM 2014 EU institutions provided actual problem statements for the different working groups. These problem statements were related to the institutions’ working agenda of 2014 and beyond. In this way, SFM was even closer to the real challenges and to the work conducted in Brussels. With the guidance of an academic tutor the students produced valuable problem solutions for European institutions from their own perspective.
The five groups worked on the following topics:
- Free Trade Agreements
- European Neighborhood Policy
- Youth Unemployment
- Sustainable Development
One highlight during the conference was the visit of the team of Debating Europe. One representative of each working group presented the policy proposals in front of the camera. The videos can be found here: http://www.debatingeurope.eu/2014/06/17/5-ideas-help-restore-trust-eu-project/
