PBL is an academic approach centred on the students’ independent thinking. This means that during sessions they are continuously exchanging knowledge, experiences and opinions. It is driven by a spirit of inquiry that motivates students to go deeper than memorisation and a shallow understanding of concepts.
In practice, PBL obliges the participants to structure their own work and develop own solutions to the problem statements. During PBL, tutors rather function as guides than real teachers. They only give input if necessary or requested by students.
PBL has proven its great potential not only at Maastricht University and Student Forum but also through all fields of academic research across the globe.
